View Full Version : Who wants some wine?

Hip Check and I are putting together a winery tour over in Yakima and Walla Walla. This would be an overnight type of deal on Memorial Day weekend (5/28-29).

Meeting point will be the Safeway in Graham (10105 224th Street E), with a departure time of 8:00 am. This is a great time to stock up on picnic supplies for our lunch meeting at Cooper Winery with the Mid-Columbia MINI Club.

Hotel info:
Walla Walla Vineyards Inn
325 East Main
Reservations: 1-509-529-4360 (call the hotel directly)
SSMINI block of rooms for $55/night

Itinerary and other useful information attached in a PDF. Link below

Wineries on the agenda:
Cooper Winery (meet with Mid-Columbia MINI Club)
L'Ecole No. 41
Woodward Canyon
Reininger
Three Rivers
Waterbrook
Dunham Cellars
K Vintners
Russell Creek
Tamarack Cellars
Kestrel

On Saturday evening, we have a reservation at the outdoor patio of the Southfork Grill, at 7:30. As such, anyone that can RSVP will help us firm up the numbers, both for the grill, as well as Kestrel for picnic lunch on Sunday.

On Sunday, we are figuring to stop in on the wineries out by the airport, starting at about 10:00 am. This is also a good time to get more picnic supplies, as Kestrel doesn't really have a lot of food options, unless you want a fine selection of cheeses.

After Kestrel, everyone is pretty much on your own to find a fun way home. Go as a group, fly solo, it's all in your hands. Choose your own adventure!

We are also working out best to get this info to anyone that would like a copy in hand during the drive. Of course, timing on the agenda is subject to change with little notice, as folks find a winery that they just can't leave (that would be all of them, right?).

I just talked to the Mid-Columbia MINI Club and they are interested in joining us for lunch at the Cooper Winery and some might even want to continue on with us to Walla Walla.

Me too! Haven't done a winery tour for quite a while!

Forgot to temp the palette with wineries we are looking at. Cooper, as mentioned, Kestrel, Reininger, a whole bunch in Walla Walla itself... quite a variety.

Tentative for us but a consideration for sure. Becki enjoys the wine and I enjoy the drive, should be fun for all.

It looks like my bride and I are in (just need to confirm the sitter).

One question, I have two friends who each have a MINI and would love to tag along. I've been trying to get them involved in the clubs and they're both intersted in tagging along if it's allowed. One of them has my old MINI S, the other a red justa.

What's the word? Can they tag along?

Todd

Logistics are being finalized as we speak. Currently, we are hooking up with the Mid-Columbia MINI Cooper Club and the Cooper Winery for lunch then heading to Walla Walla where we plan to visit L'Ecole No. 41, Woodward Canyron, Reininger, Three Rivers, Waterbrook, Dunham Cellars, Buty, K Vintners, Russell Creek, Tamarack Cellars, and Kestrel.

We have a block of rooms at Walla Walla Vineyards Inn with a group rate of $55 which is well below what I though they would offer us. More details to follow this week so stay tuned.....

Just booked some rooms for our friends and us. We'll have a total of 3 MINIs joining. We're staying close by, I was able to get a great rate through my work at a hotel 7 minutes away.

Looking forward to it!

I seem to notice a complete lack of RSVP from one of our coordinators...

Also, should we plan a group dinner or is everyone on their own? I know my lovely bride would enjoy a nice dinner out someplace without place mats that you can color on.

Depending on location I may meet you all in Yakima as 90 is close to us.

If you are referring to this coordinator... I've been told that this being Memorial Day weekend, I would be going solo... hrmmm...

As for time, I think Mitch and I had tentatively said 7:30 at the Safeway in Graham, with an 8:00 am departure. Mitch and I haven't touched base yet to discuss, so this is tentative.

Sorry Todd. Phydeaux and I haven't been able to connect to update the post yet (notice the conspicuous lack of food analogies here). We are picnicking at Cooper Winery, then have an outdoor group dinner at Southfork Grill in Walla Walla that night. Still working on ideas for lunch the following day.

If it's OK with you all I'd like to meet you in Yakima or Cooper Winery with the two MINIs I'll have in tow (assuming that is the first stop).

Looking at it, for us to get to Graham (1:15) and then drive to Yakima (3 hours) makes no sense versus the straing shot to Yakima from Sammamish (2:20). Especially when one of the couples that is coming is coming from the Penninsula first.

So, where is your first stop? Is that decided?

One of the cars (my old MINI) that is with me has an "appt" with Abeja at 2pm they really want to do. I know nothing about this winery but they rave about it and it's appt only as they don't have a tasting room. Has anyone else heard of it?

Could you guys shoot me your cell numbers? I didn't save the PM from the Pigs lunch. :o

First stop is going to be Cooper Winery after leaving Graham. I can't see that it would be a problem to meet up there. We'll get an electronic version of the plan out for anyone and everyone that want one.

Todd,

I-90 is shorter for Phydeaux and me as well. However, we wanted a fun and scenic drive which is why we opted for the southern route. The opportunity for fun twisties goes down the further west we go so we built it into the start of the run.

Kristin

Mitch - are you holding the map upside down? ;-) I think you may mean further east?

bentrydr

You can always take I-90 east, exit at Ellensburg and do the Canyon road into Yakima.

Liz - We're tentatively planning to meet at the Starbucks in Issaquah (in the Home Depot/Fred Meyer parking lot) at 8am. We'll likely make one or two rest stops along the way (for picnic supplies ad/or wine) which ought to put us at Cooper Winery before the rest of the club or at the same time. Based on Google Maps our drive time is about 3:20 whereas those coming from Graham will be looking at about 4 hours (but a better drive).

Any type of FRS radio should do. The channel the club usually uses is 7/21, so as long as your radio can select the subchannels, you will be just fine. Manufacturers would be Cobra, Motorola, Midway, and others that I can't think of right now.

I still see a few names in this thread that indicated they would like to go, but haven't RSVP'd yet (oh Pat).

We will have 8 from the club headed over tomorrow, but one will not being going on to Walla Walla. The President of the other club has been over here in Seattle with a sick family member for the past month, so I am not holding my breath that there will be much turnout from the other club. Any that show will just be a bonus.
