Engine (performance) Upgrades

Hello all!
I'm looking into getting a few things done to my R58S's engine and wanted your opinion and recommendations for things to do.

Firstly I want to get a new turbo. The one I was looking at was on minimania.com. It was the K03 Super 42mm (I'll probably go with the ported one). My first question, is what parts should I pair with it? (New catalytic converter? Oil line? Anything else?)

After that (more likely before), I was going to get a new intercooler from Alta.

The main problem for me is skill/experience. So I was hoping someone could recommend a very good mechanic shop for this type of stuff.

Miltech and Akrapovic make quality High flow catalytic converters, but they are spendy, OBX make less expensive ones, they are available through E-Bay.

Or, if you live in an area with no required emissions testing, you could get a catless downpipe.

Way Motor Works has catless downpipes, and are easy to shop with.

Detroit Tuned has real nice braided steel turbo oil lines to replace the rigid one on your MINI. They aren't subject to the vibration and cracking, like the OEM oil lines are.

The Alta intercooler may require some trimming of the plastic shrouding at the front of your car, it is not a direct replacement.

Helix makes a step-core intercooler that bolts right in with no modification of your bodywork.

I do all my own work on my cars, so I have no experience with local MINI friendy shops.

Excellent information, Dave.

Foreign Autoworks, one of our sponsors, is located near Olympia and has been used by several members. I'm not aware of any 'MINI friendly' shops in Pierce/King counties.

Nice list Dave!
I wish MINI had a dealership as close to us as the Mazada, VW, Subaru and Honda provide.
